perth bike map

The map above shows the location of the Narrows and Causeway bridges, demonstrating how they funnel cyclists into the city of Perth from the southern and south-east metropolitan areas. The Swan River creates a barrier for approximately 20 kilometres west to the coastal city of Fremantle, making the bridges unique survey points that cannot be influenced by alternative roadworks over time.

To the north, the Goongoongup Bridge dual use path opened in 1995 and a new dual use path opened on the adjoining Windan Bridge in 2000. The Goongoongup Bridge annual average weekday cycling flow was 80 in 1995/96, 70 in 1996/97, 60 in 1997/98, 80 in 1998/1999, 256 in 2002/03, 208 in 2003/04, 197 in 2004/05, and 200 in 2005/06.

It can be argued that the opening of the Windan Bridge dual use path drew some cyclists away from the Causeway river crossing, although the combined Causeway/Windan cycling survey total remained well below the Causeway pre-law average until 2000 and was only 182 cyclists more by 2005/06.
